Bendorf Funeral Home
Still waiting...
“My grandmother passed away in October 2008 a week before my wedding. It was a sad day but not as upsetting as how Melby-Bendorf funeral home is treating her memory. To explain, my grandma had a trust set up in which all of her funeral expenses were pre-paid to Melby-Bendorf funeral home. In the Spring of 2009, my mom called and spoke with funeral director Matt Melby to advise him that my grandma's date of death was still not on her headstone. She was told that this delay was due to the winter weather and that it would be done soon. She accepted that answer even though there were other headstones in the cemetery with 2009 dates on them already. Every few months both my mom and my uncle would call back to notify Melby-Bendorf that this hadn't been taken care of. Matt Melby always had an excuse and would be rude to my mom, acting as if he shouldn't be bothered by these complaints. If no one was in the office and they left a message their calls would not be returned. The last time my mom spoke with Mr. Melby, she was assured that it was an oversight and was promised the date would be on the stone by Memorial Day. So you can imagine my frustration when I visited my grandma's grave site last Friday (Memorial Weekend) and there was still no date! I then made a call to the funeral home and I spoke with Matt Melby. He was full of excuses and was now blaming the engraver. He would not give me the engravers name or number so that I could make a call myself. He was quick to get me off the phone and took down my phone number promising me a phone call with the engraver's information when he was back in the office that afternoon. Well that was a week ago I he never returned my call. \nThis morning my husband made a visit to his office in person. Mr. Melby wasn't around but he shared his disappointment in how this has been handled and the frustration my family was feeling. It was only then that he returned my call. Mr. Melby's voicemail said the engraver was having machine troubles and would get to it in the next few weeks. As far as I'm concerned this has gone on way too long. I doubt the engraver had machine troubles all of last year too! It is unacceptable for a grieving family to have to fight with a funeral home for something that should have been taking care of long ago. Melby_Bendorf has not provided the service they were paid for and I have no confidence that it will be done in two weeks either. ”
